Katsucon '06 Report

February 19th, 2006 (10:36 pm)

current emo: Regean sleepy....

Figured I should do a little write up about the con.

My plane to DC got delayed due too high winds or something. So got into DC 2 hours late, but once I got to the con is was all pretty good from there.

Basically hung at Scott's table until the Photoshop panel he was in with Hawk (apple geeks) Ian (Mac hall) and Jamie (Angry zen master.) It was a good panel, but it was a tad... disorganzied. Especially since you have 4 different style artists, who have 4 different ways of making their comic. But Scott and Hawk did use my tablet pc (Kagura) for the panel. But Hawk kept bad mouthing her, I think Kagura didn't like him, she could smell the mac on him.

Then we went out to an irish bar for dinner at 9pm, the group consisted of me, scott, shawn (Staccato) and Joanne. Jo was a dealer in the dealer's room, and a "friend" of scott's. I discovered I like Bass ale, and then there was this other irish pale ale that was good too. So Scott and Jo got kinda drunk, and not so much Shawn. Then me scott and shawn went to the game room at the con at around 11, and played some Smash(ed) Bros. which Shawn won. Then tried playing some classic games. Lets just say Scott's not very good at marble madness when drunk.

Saturday consisted mainly of sitting at Scott's booth, telling people I'm not the artist for VGcats, among other things, and helping scott sell things when i wasn't playing his DS games. Shounen Jump Stars is pretty fun.

We missed Mac Hall's panel and the MC Chris concert, but we did end up going out for sushi, which was cool. Scott forgot his ID so he was stuck drinking juice, while me and shawn had sake. Although it was probably good he didn't.

Oh I should mention I got this cool Rukia statue/figure in the dealer's room saturday. Really detailed. It's really cool. I'll take a pic of it later and post it.

So after sushi we met back up with Jo and her friend Mike at the hotel bar where Jo and Scott got drunk off Maithais, and Shawn had something called teh incredible hulk. We took Scott back to the room since he was pretty drunk. He collapsed on the bed for 3 minutes and slept, then woke up and started talking very loudly, and talking a lot about random stuff. But it was really funny stuff. I wish I had had a tape recorder.

Scott had to get up crazy early to catch his 8 am flight out of DC back to Canadia. Me and shawn got up later, and I helped him out at his table before I left. I also picked up some pocky and a bleach figure of Capt. Urahara.

I'm happy I didn't spend all that much money on anime stuff, seeing as there was a lot there I could have gotten. Wasn't really tempted to get a model kit luckily since those can get pricey, especially when I only get the 1/60 scale. Although I will one day get the wing zero.

I I forgot to mention that I got to talk with the con chair from Connecticon for a little bit. He's a really cool guy. I really can't wait for Connecticon now, especially since I should be getting a whole table for free. But I definitly have to put together some merchandisse to sell then.

Also, I'm volunteering for registration at Connecticon. I guess my friend is friends with one of the people who runs it. So I'll definetly see you there?

Awesome! You can hook me up with my pass the first day so I don't have to stand in line.... actually I don't think I have to stand in line since I'll be a guest.

The people that run connecticon are really cool.

And scott is a fun drunk since he talks a lot more.

Sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. I've gotta get myself to one of these now that I actually have friends that go - probably Connecticon this year, maybe even Boston next month....
And yes, Bass is yum :)
